Our Wooden Frame Repair & Restoration Process

Every frame tells a story—and every repair at Mary Beth's Custom Framing Studio is tailored to preserve that story for years to come. We specialize in practical repairs for wooden frames, including rejoining corners, filling cracks and chips, expert color matching, and replacing broken glass. We do not undertake ornate Victorian or gilded restoration, but we excel in bringing everyday frames and cherished heirlooms back to life. The process begins with a detailed inspection: we check for structural weaknesses, environmental damage, and aesthetic flaws. Using conservation-grade fillers and finishes, we meticulously rebuild and retouch, matching grains and colors so repairs are seamless. Archival glass replacements and acid-free backings complete the restoration, ensuring the frame is not just repaired but stabilized for the future. Throughout, you’re kept informed—no surprises, just expert results.

For less than thrift store prices, artists, crafters, or other thrift minded shoppers might just find that someone else's trash is the treasure they need for their own artwork!

FAQS

Wooden Frame Repair & Restoration: Frequently Asked Questions

  • What types of wooden frame repairs do you offer?

We repair structural issues like loose corners, fill cracks and chips, perform expert color matching, and replace broken glass—strictly for wooden frames, not polystyrene(plastic) frames. We cannot repair cracked off ornaments as well as a licensed frame conservator. We recommend outsourcing to a dedicated professional for repairing compo and gold leaf.

  • Do you restore antique or ornate Victorian frames?

Our restoration is limited to practical repairs on wooden frames. We do not handle ornate Victorian or gilded frame recasting, but we can advise on preservation.

  • Will the repair affect the value or appearance of my frame?

We strive to ensure repairs are seamless and non-invasive, preserving both the value and original aesthetic of your frame.

  • How long does wooden frame repair typically take?

Repair timelines depend on complexity, but 1-3 weeks turnaround for most repairs, depending on current workload.

  • Can you match the original color and grain of my frame?

Yes, we specialize in custom color-matching and filling techniques to seamlessly blend repairs with the original wood grain and finish of your frame.

  • Do you replace broken glass in wooden frames?

Many glass replacements can be done on the spot, assuming we are not busy with another customer.

  • Is there a minimum cost for frame repair services?

Because every frame and repair is different, costs vary based on the condition of the frame and materials needed. Bring your frame to the studio and we will assess the repair and discuss the best approach.
