Custom Framing: Artistry, Science, and True Preservation

At Mary Beth’s Custom Framing Studio, custom framing is a meticulous process where artistic vision meets scientific precision. Every project begins with a design consultation, where Mary Beth applies her background in Art and Biology to determine the best way to preserve and present your artwork.

Our studio regularly works with a wide range of media, including:

• Oil, acrylic, and watercolor paintings, including canvas stretching
• Charcoal, graphite, pastel, and pen and ink drawings
• Photography, fine art prints, posters, and giclée reproductions
• Animation cels and stained glass, each requiring specialized handling
• Historical documents, textiles, memorabilia, and dimensional objects

Canvas stretching is a core service, with multiple stretcher bar profiles available for both traditional framing and frameless presentations, along with a wide selection of canvas float frames.

We also incorporate museum-quality mounting techniques, such as:

• Japanese mulberry paper hinges with Klucel G for low-moisture, reversible mounting
• Mylar encapsulation and strapping for adhesive-free float mounting
• Hand-formed rod mounts for secure, custom object support

Each piece is meticulously crafted using archival materials and reversible methods to ensure lasting protection and presentation.

Why Choose Our Custom Framing? Trusted by Collectors & Artists

Most other big box stores also advertise conservation-grade materials, but they do not have the knowledge or experience to mount them correctly. I am constantly reframing horrors from other frame shops where the art has been damaged to the point of devaluation due to improper mounting and handling. Some big-box framers will send your art out for framing, resulting in greater liability, or have untrained staff who make careless mistakes. Online framers, if they don't ask you to ship them your art, will make assumptions about it and leave you, as the consumer, with inadequate instructions to finish mounting the artwork yourself. The process of mounting artwork safely and correctly is just as important as the materials used.

Archival Techniques & Virtual Framing Technology

Custom framing at our Myrtle Beach studio is defined by technical expertise and innovation. We utilize archival, acid-free materials and non-adhesive mounting for all media, including paintings, photographs, textiles, and memorabilia. Our process includes chemical stabilization to prevent yellowing, acid burn, or mechanical damage—a level of care backed by Mary Beth’s scientific background and Professional Picture Framers Association (PPFA) membership. For clients who struggle to visualize the finished product, our Virtual Framer software allows you to preview designs in real time—even superimposed in your own space—eliminating design anxiety and ensuring every detail aligns with your vision. Whether framing a newspaper, wedding bouquet, or military medal, you’ll experience a seamless blend of artistry, science, and stress-free decision-making, all delivered by the most trusted custom framing team in Myrtle Beach.

FAQS

Custom Framing Services: Frequently Asked Questions

  • What makes your custom framing different from big-box retailers?

Our studio uses archival, museum-quality materials for mats, glass, and framing, similar to what you may find elsewhere. The difference lies in how those materials are used. Each project is approached with a higher level of technique, experience, and artistic consideration to ensure the artwork is both protected and thoughtfully presented.

From mounting choices to final assembly, every decision is made based on the needs of the piece rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. You also work directly with someone who takes the time to understand your artwork and your vision, offering a level of personalization and care that goes beyond what is typically found in larger, production-driven framing environments.

  • Can you frame unusual objects, like medals or jerseys?

Yes! We can frame almost anything, including unusual objects, medals, and sports jerseys.

  • How do you protect delicate textiles like cross stitch or needlepoint?

We use lacing or pinning—never glue or staples—to mount embroidery and needlework. This method supports the fabric and ensures it can be safely removed or remounted in the future without damage.

  • What is the Virtual Framer and how does it help?

Our Virtual Framer software lets you preview custom framing options in real time, even showing how your piece will look in your own room. It eliminates design guesswork and builds confidence in your choices.

  • Do you offer frame repair or restoration?

We repair wooden frames and replace broken glass, and can fill cracks or chips and color-match paint. However, we do not perform ornate Victorian or gilded restoration, nor are we licensed conservators.

  • Are your framing materials really archival?

Yes. All mats, backing, and mounting materials are acid-free and conservation-grade, providing long-term protection against fading, yellowing, and environmental damage.

  • Can you install my framed art at home or the office?

Absolutely! We offer professional art installation, including on-site measuring, delivery, and secure hanging for all custom-framed pieces completed in our studio.
